PANJAKARMA TREATMENT
Before the actual operation of purification begins, there is a need to prepare the body in prescribed methods to encourage the release of toxins. The two procedures are Snehana and Swedana.
The Panchakarma therapy of Ayurveda is comprised of five basic types of advanced treatment for the evacuation of vitiated Dosha (toxic materials) from the body. One can consider this as a body de-tox program. There are so many subtypes of this therapy and different types of herbal massages, fomentation's such as steam, external oil treatments, Basti (medicated enemas), Virechana (purgation through herbs), Vamana (emesis through herbs), Nasya (nasal administration of oils) etc. are also incorporated. These practices are extremely helpful in relieving deep seated diseases as well as being beneficial for maintaining and improving physical and mental health.
Ayurveda the upaveda of adharvaveda presents the knowledge about everything we need to lead a happy, healthy and purposeful life. It is not just a science of medicine , but also a science of dietics, pharmocology, chemistry, spirituality, sociology, moral science, cosmology, philosophy, and so on. AN ESSENCE OF AYURVEDA
Medicine is very primordial art and materials available in his surrounding as drugs have been used in days of antiquity as far back as history can take us. It is in Ayurveda, that definite properties of drugs and their uses have been given in details. Ayurveda, in fact, is the very foundation stone of the ancient medical science especially of India.
The word Ayurveda is made up of tow components, 'AYUSH' meaning life and 'VEDA' meaning science, hence Ayurveda is the science of life. The origin of science dates back to Vedic period, about 5000 years ago. 'Brahma', the creator was the originator of the system who passed on it to the Ashwini kumaras (physicians of gods) who in turn imparted it to the Rishi's form where it was promoted among the people through generations.
The main aim of Ayurveda is safeguarding and positive health and cure of disease through medicine, dietary restrictions, and regulated life styles.
The basic principle of Ayurveda involve two theories, one is Panchamahabhootha theory and the other one is Tridosha theory. According to Ayurveda philosophy every thing is made of five basic elements they are, Pritwi, (earth), Jala(water), Teja(fire), Akasha(ether) and are called Puncha mahabutha. Once again according to Ayurveda all the physiological functions of the body is controlled by three biological units viz. Vata, Pitta, Kapha they are formed of mahabutha only. Physiologically these three dosha are responsible for various functions.
